“It takes a creative free spirit to inspire many, but it also take a pure heart to influence just one. May you always be Remember for that.”
Boy, was this project a beast to work on. This is just part one out of two pieces. I still had fun though. While I have seen a few handfuls of Coco/ The Book Of Life crossovers before, I think I've only seen one or two involving the death Gods, and this was an idea I had in mine for a while. Plus I haven't drawn La Muerte and Xibalba in so long. If the Land of the Dead has such a thing for their celebrities, how would they react to a Goddess of Death herself?
Made of sweet sugar candy La Muerte is the Queen of the Remembered and has a positive out look on humanity. Always looking to the good side of man-kind,. Even past their imperfections, and who better fits that than the bony hobo himself, Hector Rivera. Despite his flaws and past mistakes, Hector is still a good soul, who just wanted to return home to his family and held a strong passion for music. The irony is that he was being forgotten, but that wasn't what he deserved. La Muerte clearly sees this. Even when faced with final death, he still pushed to see his daughter again as well as help a child, who he didn't know. With a loving smile, she assures him that he will always be loved and remembered.
